Right now, Charleston is in the thick of one of its biggest and most beloved cultural events. For 17 days and nights, the city is taken over by opera, theater, dance, and musical performances of all kinds. For a bit of background, Spoleto Festival was founded in 1977 by Gian Carlo Menotti, a Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, and other artists who wanted to recreate the Festival of Two Worlds from Spoleto, Italy.
